True Worth

In God’s eyes, we are worthy.  He who created us, saw us in detail before we were ever born.  He knew our smile.  He saw our friends and recognized we would touch their lives in significant ways.  He saw the achievements we would reach, and He knew we would try to dismiss them as unimportant. He was pleased with us and created us to be world changers.

When we refuse to see ourselves as God sees us, we disrespect Him. We cheapen ourselves when we measure our value through other people’s eyes.  It makes our earthly journey more difficult. We hang our heads. All the while, we are perfect in God’s eyes, growing and learning but perfect. We should never argue with Him about that.

In our confusion, sin can seem unavoidable. We lose our temper. We break some rule we didn’t even know about. We judge. Even in cases where judgement would seem fair, like an arsonist, it isn’t okay. We need law and order.  We need to be emphatic about that.  But we also need to remember when people repent, they deserve forgiveness and a second chance.  There seems to be great confusion over this issue.

If we long to be healed, if we wonder where we are called to make a difference in this world, we have only to sit at the feet of Jesus. He is/was a great teacher. He has not left us. Just be still and listen. Enter your prayer place, take to the dusty road and He will join you.  It is difficult until we finally learn God expects us to live loving. That means no picking up offenses. No ego trips.  If someone hurts you, don’t look for a way to get even. No. Love your enemies. Forgive seventy times seven. It is the God way to show love.

We can be tempted to believe we are lost and alone. In a world where cruelty and heartlessness have found peculiar approval, choose to be salt and light. Choose to reflect God’s love. Be an exhorter and a fresh breath of loving air.  God calls us worthy.

My Lord, Thank You for showing me I am worthy.  Thank You for ignoring my low self-esteem.  God, have You noticed the world accuses us of arrogance the moment we applaud our own selves.  May I stand boldly, celebrating Your majesty, the excellence of each individual, the designs that intertwine, working together as one voice to achieve Your will.  Help me shine as brightly as You planned for me to shine.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  Psalm 139:13
