Faith for the Distance
Faith is life altering. It instills peace and confidence as we reach out to a hurting world. It also gives us the perfect words when we lead people to Christ. We become unflappable, knowing no matter what happens God is beside us and He catches us when we fall. Faith seems simple but it absolutely changes lives. We can live in peace once we learn to trust God and stop trying to be the god in our own lives.
Obedience to the Word brings a wonderful lesson in trust and patience. We live in an “I want it and I want it now” culture. Computers teach us to expect almost instant results. Video games can train us to execute revenge, expect do-overs, and rise from a fall with no consequences. Life is illusionary. Only God, His expectations and promises, matter in the end.
Hindsight is helpful. David was able to defeat Goliath because he’d defeated lions and bears while shepherding. He had a history and he trusted God. Looking back over our lives, we can easily see things we prayed for that were not God’s best for us. It’s tempting to decide we’d better handle things ourselves when the going gets tough. But that is exactly when we're supposed to relax, give the problem to God and know He will handle it in the best possible way for our lives.
We must remind ourselves God’s view of the world and individual situations is different than our own. He sees solutions, advancing armies of help and hope, intricate details and coming events we can’t possibly see. A pure belief He only wants the best for us helps us find peace as we wait for His answers. He is beside us. Things may end in a different way than we envisioned but He is faithful, protective and filled with a love that always brings His will into our lives.
Dear God, Help me become a more patient Christian. Thank You for watching over me and protecting me from myself when I allow my ego to pull me away from You and Your call on my life. I thank You for the seed of faith You implanted in me. Help me, Father, to increase that faith through building on victories. Help me reach those who are hungry for You, those who know they need You, sharing with them the testimonies of Your gifts and miracles.
