We Can Do All Things
If we are at all literal, our efforts to satisfy God’s requirements can seem impossible to achieve. Try to imagine shoving a camel through the eye of a needle. The Word says it will be that hard for rich people to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Thankfully we have another Scripture that says, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 With God’s grace, He redeems us!
It is a journey to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. While He didn’t fail or fall, we do. With the enemy tempting us with worldly possessions, with challenges, and all our emotions, we can lose our focus on the nearness of our Lord. We have a lot to learn, to remember, and even to sacrifice for others. Obedience to God requires us to surrender our egos.
We all spend time with unsaved family and friends. Like Jesus did. He went to a tax collector’s home and upset a lot of people. When we stay within the church walls and only socialize with church friends, we can avoid criticism but we’ll have little impact on witnessing to the lost. Jesus understood His mission was never to preach to the Pharisees and Sadducees. They saw themselves as above reproach. And yet they had a sense Jesus saw through to their darker sides and He made them question themselves.
Eventually they decided He should die so they would feel confident again. We think they were crazy. Or wicked. We now have more than 2000 years of history and we know His message has been heard all around the world. Millions of believers walk the earth, waiting for the Second Coming. We have much more evidence than was available to them. And yet, we have states where it is legal to abort a child up till the day it is due to be born. We have politicians who want to silence parents who refuse to accept schools handing out transgender information without notifying parents. We spend entire city budgets supporting a homeless population that includes able bodied young people who could easily get a job and get off the streets. A complete lack of common sense rules our culture and it isn’t difficult to imagine these folks calling for a crucifixion.
Lord God, I know we can do all things through You. Help me feel Your power and the gifts of the Holy Spirit as I stand up for righteousness. Loving others does not mean leading them to do whatever they want to do. You said we would do everything You did and more if we trusted in You. I trust You and I know the Word says exactly how this will end.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
