I cannot measure the difference Salvation has made in my life. I remember my youth as lacking direction. I knew I wanted to be a writer. But I thought of that career as my skill, my talent, not as something I received or should pursue for God. Remembering my passion for writing, I often watch grandchildren for clues to the call on their lives. Most children will display their talent at a young age.
Sometimes we make it too difficult. Many people have service gifts, loving to fix things, cook things, build or design things. Others are attracted to medicine, teaching, preaching or art. I often think the call or gift from God is that place where we feel most comfortable, where we cannot resist spending our time and our efforts. Once we understand all skill is important, we stop comparing our talents to others. When people recognize their call, surrender to God, living, thinking, breathing and following God’s voice and His will, they can become world changers and life givers.
Can we have more than one gift? Yes. Remember Bezalel? He was the man who created the first temple, that amazing tent in the desert. God gifted him in amazing ways, capable of following complicated designs. However God has prepared you, find joy in your call.
Lord God, thank You for Your love for us, for the gifts You pour into us, and for the shared Body of Christ that is equipped to do all the works needed in a hurting world. Help us, Lord, to appreciate the part You ask us to play and to never complain that others have a greater call. Recognizing the power of organization and design is humbling. Thank You for Your gifts and Your grace.
God in his kindness gave each of us different gifts. If your gift is speaking what God has revealed, make sure what you say agrees with the Christian faith. Romans 12:6
