Generous with Time

Giving of time is a particular struggle or me. I’ve had people ask me to go to a difficult appointment or a family meeting with them.  Perhaps something  worrisome.  Uncomfortable.  Maybe they ask for a ride.  Or money.  I’m quicker with money than time. I have made excuses, and said I had an obligation or commitment. I always end up doing it.  Love surrenders our needs for the needs of others. I long for discernment, confidence when God asks me to respond generously to the needs of others. Love loves when it is not convenient. Love loves when we’d rather stay home. Or sleep. Or watch tv.  Love loves because we are loved by God and Jesus died that we might spread His love.

When God makes a promise and performs a miracle in your life, remember it comes equipped with His plan for completion. He doesn’t set someone in place with power and influence without expecting that influence to be for the good of the Body of Christ. He wants to bless you but as He does, He is expecting your blessing to be shared with others.

Our view of God’s world and Jesus’ teaching is subject to change. The more we reach out the more He can reach into us.  There is a song, COME AND WALK ON THE WATER WITH ME. I love the song and I always think I would be quick to jump from the boat and walk toward Jesus! But would I? Such faith. I want to believe I would never hesitate to join Jesus on the sea!

Dear Lord, I live in awe of Your great love and generosity to me.  I long to be that faithful warrior among Your followers who is the first to volunteer to help in any possible way when someone needs support.  Help me ignore my own desires and to willingly and cheerfully offer strength, money, labor or courage to anyone among my church family who needs additional faith. 

To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”  Mark 12:33
