Discerning Spirits

Today we will see many kinds of spirits.  Witches.  Ghosts.  Perhaps even angels.  Halloween focuses on a few spirits most Christians try to avoid.  It is a good idea to be discerning as we open our doors to Trick or Treaters.  Most of the activity is entertainment and is a way to have fun.  Because human beings are the way they are, we are not shocked that this holiday has drawn a few bad actors into the mix.

What spirits will we entertain tonight?  A five-year-old witch banging on the door can be pretty cute.  A twenty-five-year old witch, casting spells as she walks, might be better avoided.  This is a day to keep our focus on the Holy Spirit.

Time with the Holy Spirit is never wasted.  He dwells within us.  Leads us to positive decisions.  When I talk to Him, I see results and change like I've never seen before. I can only imagine how this can grow and evolve in the future.  Earnest prayers are going up all over the world every day.  God sees a much larger picture, a future picture and a picture of the things we cannot see. We have to trust God when we pray and know that He is just.

Every day, especially today, stay focused on Jesus.  His majesty prevails over everything!  We are the remnant and God always preserves a remnant that loves and stands in the gap when the world loses its way.  Prayer is a wonderful gift.  Spiritual strength is vital in this changing world.  The privilege of praying for others, the comfort of praying in chaotic situations, and always keeping our eyes on the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is the best way to walk with God.

Lord God.  Here it is again.  Halloween.  Help me stay focused on You.  While I understand this holiday is viewed as fun and a celebration for children, I also know it has a darker side.  Help me walk with You, hold Your hand and use faith and discernment to identify any danger or spiritual influence I should avoid.  Thank You for wisdom that warns we sometimes need protection.  Thank You, Lord.

The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?  Psalm 27:1
