Social Media
The world is alluring. It dangles lovely shiny things in our path. But the world is also vile, perverted, wicked and cruel. If we sacrifice all the loving gifts God gave us and choose to give our allegiance to worldly ways, we ignite God’s anger. Right is right. The Word is truth. Stay on the path where God placed you. Seek truth. Discern right from wrong. Sink your teeth into the wisdom of life. Grow up!
When we promote ourselves, plotting position and influence, God is training up someone with a humble heart to take our place. It is only in serving Him with purity and sincere hunger that God can take us to the place He always wanted us to go. If we think we can get there on our own, we will stay mired in the struggle.
Sometimes I want to run from righteousness, from obedience and rules. In my youth I was rebellious. But that left me hungry and hurting in my soul. Nothing filled the holes in my heart. Nothing. And then, I found God again. Standing where I left Him at 18 years of age. We walked together for a while. And then I ran off again. And then He came for me. Now, when He speaks, I listen. He moves and I follow. He is my breath, my life, my joy and my truth. Nothing will make me run from Him again.
It is simple wisdom to stay on God’s path and to recognize the world is filled with swill, insincerity, and dead end roads. It’s like one road has bluebirds and sunflowers and the other road rocks and pitfalls. We see it clearly. The message isn’t disguised. In spite of the red flags and sirens, people cheer the pitfalls and traps as they wander aimlessly toward doom.
Social media is a time trap. Scrolling. Reading. Commenting. Using the nature of anonymity, many people are comfortable speaking rudely to others. If we comment at all, we should not say anything from behind our screens that we wouldn’t say if we were face to face. I understand it is a great way to snag pictures of grandchildren, to catch up with friends and even to see what our communities are offering. Just be careful because the Internet is after our time.
Father God, I am sorry for all the time I’ve spent on social media. I am sorry for reading negative comments, for laughing at unkind humor and for realizing I’ve been Online for three or four hours. Help me recognize the things in life that steal our time and our talent. Those especially that give nothing in return. May I always treat time like finances, understanding its value so I never waste it.
A Time for Everything
For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. Ecclesiastes 3
