When we allow our emotions to drive our peace or our behavior, we will live a life of limited capacity. Learn to allow the fruits of the spirit to dominate your emotions. Trust God to handle our changed and challenging culture. Know He has your troubled loved one in His hands! Don’t fall into anger, judgment, complaining or criticism. You sacrifice your joy and bliss when you waste your emotions on other people’s walk with God. Just trust Him! Live your life. Walk your walk. Stay close to God. He has got this.
I have always thought keeping your mind and emotions focused on the fruits of the Spirit was the hardest habit to develop and the easiest biblical principle to avoid. We tend to forgive our emotional outbursts, blaming our parents, our genetics and the things we learned as children. But the Bible tells us to take every thought captive. Apparently, in spite of our DNA or background, we’re not free to let our emotional baggage fly whenever we want. Out of control emotions can keep us immature and operating well below where God needs us to be.
Father, my emotions get me in a lot of trouble. Help me recognize these feelings are selfish, self-centered, and they do more harm than good. Feelings of guilt, anger, shame, pride and all the other ego-generated feelings are usually ignited when I feel smaller than those around me. Lord, when I remember to see myself the way You see me, when I operate in the gifts You gave me and focus on helping others, I forget all the emotional drama. Help me to control those unreliable feelings and spend my time and energy of living more like Jesus.
Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything. John 3:20
