We may never understand why growth comes through trials and setbacks, but it is our job to trust the Lord and to keep a good attitude when we find ourselves immersed in a rough patch. Every challenge is an opportunity to trust God more and to rely on our own capabilities less. There is joy in surrender and a huge relief once we understand our trust in God is where we find freedom.

I cannot make people like me. I cannot make people agree with me and my interpretation of the Word. But God can make my persistence less annoying, my confidence less jarring and He can help people relate to me in a friendlier way. Many times in my life I have wished I could call back my words. I can be overly passionate about revelation or ideas. We all want to be heard. It comes from pride, arrogance and a sense of self-righteousness! Until we fall on our knees in front of God and implore Him to help us carefully consider each word before we allow it to run loose into the world. Allow God to help us take control of our tongues. A tiny tongue can break a heart, kill love, and cause bitterness even in a tender soul.

It is only through immersing ourselves in the Word, through reading and understanding each word, that we live a more obedient life for God. If we could look back at our less evolved and involved Christian walk, we would see how far His majesty has brought us.

It can be difficult to go through a rough patch in life. The kind of patch you thought was behind you forever. It feels familiar. It feels negative. It feels like yesterday is the boss of your life. But then! Then! Then!!! God appears. He moves. And you see miracles on the spot. Those are the moments when it is easy to trust and believe. Those are the times you remember humility and remember you are a child of God. In all seasons of life you are a child of God. Victory is yours. You simply have to believe that is true.

Lord Jesus, Your walk on this earth was such an example of heavenly blessings, the power of faith, and consistency in all things. When I move my focus away from You, I can easily lose my way. When I listen to the grim reports on the news, the crime, the danger, the warnings that all is lost, when I filter that negativity through the world view, I am lured into a false sense that You do not care about us any longer. But You do. Help me remember I am Your child. You created the universe. You created me. You have a plan for ever and a day and I will be with You throughout eternity.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. ... Psalm 91
