Slow Down and Simplify
When I choose to spend my day putting God first, reading the Word, and doing Bible studies, I experience more spirituality, more production and more powerful results.
Imagine if every morning we woke up, smiled, greeted God and believed He held our entire day in His hands. No plan, no lists, no anxiety or clock, no schedule. Just you and God, along with a bit of praise and worship. Eventually we all have to go to work but if we spent one day just communing with our Father, just speaking and listening, perhaps we would happily surrender every detail of our lives to His tender and capable hands.
Distractions and busy work are mental parasites. They kill, steal and destroy motivation, creation, and dreams. It is the path of least resistance to ‘stay busy’ so earnestly we miss all the goals and surprises God planned for us to accomplish and enjoy.
It’s trust and faith. We say we know who He is. Never doubt it. When that other voice, that enemy voice, whispers God cannot be true, that Jesus is a myth, a legend, tell that voice to shut up. Take control of your thoughts. Just know. Believe. Walk confidently with Jesus until the day He returns.
Sometimes we apologize repeatedly for things we have done. God has already forgiven that sin. He has thrown it into the sea of forgetfulness. We understand His gracious and forgiving heart. If He has forgiven us, it is finished. Asking Him to forgive again means we do not have faith He did what He promised,
Rest. Do not feel guilty when you choose to pray, contemplate or read the Word. Our obsessed world is afraid to relax, afraid to let go of the goals and the relentless competition. It condemns leisure. Ignore those voices. Like Martha, you are choosing the right thing.
Do not focus on the things of the world but rather focus on the things of God: kindness, helping, loving and sensing when someone simply needs a smile or a moment of our time.
Father, I am so sorry I sometimes forget life is meant to have many moments of peaceful joy. Help me slow down and just stand outside, watching the clouds scoot across the sky, smelling the flowers and enjoying the beauty of sunsets, oceans and the miracles of life. I long to feel the joy of rain on my face, the delight of wind blowing through my hair, and the sheer sense of belonging in this world You created. Lord, please help me ignore the call to a life of performance when You designed me to live a life filled with blessings.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29
