Women of Age

God is good. All the time. He longs for us to live successful lives; He also expects us to use the gifts He placed inside us before we were born. One year I attended a large Christian conference in Hawaii. I had an unusual experience as I arrived for the afternoon sessions. Even though my husband was there and several friends from church, I experienced a great sense of loneliness as I walked into the gathering.

While I do not hear God’s voice in an audible way often, I heard Him that day. He said, “This is how my older women feel within the church. They feel ignored and irrelevant.” He said Jesus’ return was held back because so many older women had laid down their gifts. They feel too old and think they are expected to allow younger women to step in.

God wants us to complete the call He placed on our lives, to never let it go until He releases us. If God gave you a call, a responsibility, no one can fulfill it except you.

It is never too late to surrender your life and your talent to God. Repent for neglecting your call and make every day count as you work to accomplish each task He called you to do. If you have ever felt unnecessary in your position, or felt unappreciated, forgive everyone for everything. Remembered wounds keep right on wounding us. Forgiven wounds create a loving balm that can heal both offender and the offended.

My heart is tuned to helping people find their gift. God calls us each uniquely, having placed talents or creative ideas inside us when we were born. To think otherwise is to doubt God’s power and mercy. We all receive a measure of faith, a heart to seek God and at least one gift to draw lost souls into His Body.

Fear and anxiety are the enemy’s favorite weapons. As long as he can keep us focused on ourselves, on our feelings, our values, our offenses, we are of no use to the Body of Christ. We would thrive if we could break the mirrors in our minds that keep us worrying about what others think. Whatever they are thinking, it’s rarely about us.

God will use us until He takes us home. It is important for us to take care of our bodies and our mobility so we can achieve the things He asks us to do. He will provide the energy we need to fulfill our call.

Lord God, I am sorry for the attitude I take sometimes. I repent for judging others as I imagine they are judging me. I know I have not achieved everything You called me to do within the Body of Christ. I do feel like I should pass on my knowledge to younger women, train or instruct them, but unless You release me, I have no authority to stop functioning in my position. Forgive me, Lord. Help me be faithful to You until You bring me home to live with You.

The Race of Faith

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
