Seen, Chosen, Sent

Most of us live heavily scheduled lives which can cause us to be distracted. We don’t look at people closely enough, do not intentionally see to their welfare. Ask God to make you aware when someone needs a hug, a loaf of bread or just feels a hunger to be “seen.” No one deserves to be overlooked. Let’s choose to be the eyes, the ears and, mostly, the heart of Jesus.

As long as I have been a Christian, I have delighted in the revelation that God knew me before I was born. I am not a stranger to Him. He knew I would eventually set aside my ego and my cynicism. He knew I would hear His voice, fall to my knees and serve Him gratefully the rest of my days. I am richly blessed that He designed me to yearn to follow Him.

God is patient and tender. Loving. We can rest, knowing we do not have to forge our own way. God leads with wisdom and His presence. Once we understand this, it becomes a part of who we are, how we think and ultimately how we behave. It is life changing!

We can see others through God’s eyes. We do not have to approve of their behavior. We can see them as they look to Him, still changeable, redeemable and even lovable.

The Great Commission was given more than 2000 years ago. In our priority juggling culture, it is easy to put other obligations before Jesus’ request. We ignore Him at our peril. We are chosen, a remnant, people born to follow in His footsteps.

It is a waste of time to function as a Christian in works and words only. Perhaps such people can eke their way into Heaven. But they will have to face God Himself and try to explain why they didn’t seek to evangelize, to tell the story of Jesus and to save souls like the Great Commission commanded.

Father God, the Word says You’re the only one who knows the day and hour when Jesus will return. I am sorry for the times I have chosen other tasks when I should have been about the Great Commission. Help me hear Your voice, Father. Help me respond in obedience swiftly. Every tool I need to be a Harvester for the Kingdom has been provided. Thank You for preparing me for such a time as this.

The Great Commission

Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. ... Matthew 28:16-20
