Christian life demands sacrifice. Sacrifice leads to fulfillment, peace and the blessings that make your life’s work meaningful to the Kingdom of God. So many people settle for lives well below the level God planned for them. Until we die to our egos, our humanity and our lesser selves, we will never achieve the wonderful things God gifted us to achieve!

When I was a child, I assumed everyone believed in God. My family never went to church but we were taught about God and Jesus. I had a great-grandmother who prayed for me and who occasionally took me to church. People I knew believed in God whether they went to church or not. Today I am constantly baffled why so many have stopped believing in God. They had praying grandmothers too. Do they scorn the ones who prayed for them? How did the devil stop the faith that has sustained and enlightened generations? I’m afraid they stopped believing in the middle of the final exam.

The lesson here is to understand the call on your own life. I have always longed to sing to the Lord. But I am by now convinced that is not my call. My call is to write and through writing, to bring glory to God. It’s so simple. I knew it as a child. I certainly love to sing but I have no unique musical talent. I am at peace with that. It is difficult to have sufficient faith. Doubts come to us unbidden! Only faith allows us to stand, feet planted, wearing the armor of God. And stand we will.

When Jesus spoke, He used the images of things people knew to introduce them to concepts that were new! It was such a unique way to teach, and people have been copying it ever since. Speaking from the heart, giving without getting, earnestly offering Himself as the path to eternity, He ignited human desire.

It is easy to be a halfhearted, words only Christian. That decision leads to halfhearted results. Daily prayer, daily time in the Word, and daily commitment to follow Jesus will bring us closer to Him and a spiritual life.

We make life more complicated than it needs to be and thereby we cheat ourselves out of the peace God longs for us the enjoy. Pray. Care. Do good when you see need. Love. Smile. Just do what is right and true.

I think my enthusiasm for evangelism needs the most work. By the time I became a Christian, I had learned the world’s lessons on judgement sufficiently. I have taken selfish pleasure in watching obvious singers, thinking they deserve the ending they’ve set in motion. Now I understand I should be doing everything in my power to get them saved!

Dear God, Life is evolving and I am grateful You help me mature every single day I am alive. Help me feel compassion when I see sin in action. Father, help me develop empathy that refuses to let anyone go to hell without at least offering to pray for them and lead them to Salvation. I long to see healthy loving families that find all the joy and reward a life lived with You is better than the world’s version of life.

The Discipline of God

For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. Hebrews 12:3
