Habitual prayer and devotion time can lead to great change in our lives. I remember a time when I offered to pray for the world. I had been to a City Reaching seminar in San Jose, California, and realized with a computer atlas I could reach out to the whole world. I sent letters to the post office in cities all over the earth, offering to pray for people. I received hundreds of responses, hundreds of requests for prayer. When we pray fervently for others there is a moment, a possibility, where we get closer to God than we’ve ever imagined. A brief encounter where we feel we truly have His majestic ear. Once it happens you will seek it again. And again. Forever.
I don’t know how to describe that moment when we connect with God in a most unusual and exciting way. Someone described it this way, “A “God moment” refers to a special, spiritually meaningful moment when someone feels God’s presence, guidance, or intervention in a profound way. It’s a moment that affirms God’s reality and closeness, often transforming one’s perspective.” For me, it is rare and I wish it happened more often. It feels like He is listening. He is close. He is leaning in just to share a moment with you. In my experience it is more likely to happen when you are praying for someone else. It is indescribable and you will long to meet God at this level again.
God, I love when I spend time with You. I imagine I can climb up onto Your lap and spill out the names of people I want You to help or heal or protect. It is when we talk, when I feel You leaning in to listen to me, I most clearly feel Your intense love, Your concern for our world, and Your willingness to listen to needs that are so different from Your own. I pray I will always respect Your time, that I will be grateful for Your careful attention and always remember to pray for everyone I have promised to remember. Your love for us is such a gift.
34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:34-35 NLT
