Work when you don’t feel like working. Pray when you don’t feel like praying. Our feelings are emotions and they are easily manipulated by an enemy with no good wishes for our lives. Defy him with God’s power! Our feelings cannot be trusted. When we would rather rest in a chair than work or sleep late instead of putting in overtime, we should keep any promises we’ve made. Our integrity is based on many things but keeping our word, doing what we have said we will do is a big part of how we are perceived.

The more we keep our word, the more committed we become to making it a habit. There’s a loosening of obligation almost everywhere these days. We change our minds with little explanation, believing people will work around our modified schedules. But schedules are complicated and affect others. One broken promise can throw several events into chaos. Promise yourself that you will become a promise keeper, never breaking your word unless you face an emergency. Be the person everyone emulates, the one they admire enough to change their own behavior.

God, Thank You for loving me enough to teach me integrity. Thank You for reminding me my promises represent my Salvation and therefore my promises represent You. Help me live as an example of a changed and responsible person, one whose behavior has been forever altered by the presence of Jesus in my heart. Let me be a quiet and faithful mentor to new Believers as they come up against the temptation of compromise.

Who, then, is the faithful and wise servant? The master will put that person in charge of giving the other servants their food at the right time. Matthew 24:45
