There is a great lie in the world that we do not have enough time for a rich spiritual life, that we do not have enough money to tithe, that Christian friends are not as much fun, and godly principles drain life’s pleasures. That lie is meant to lure us far from our Salvation. To turn our minds toward the world and away from the Word. Remember, the devil comes to kill, steal and destroy! The church does a wonderful job teaching many things. But many churches seem to ignore solid teaching on our spiritual life. This is the definition: “Spiritual life is the experience of living in alignment with a higher purpose or divine presence, characterized by inner growth, connection with God or the sacred, and transformation of the heart and mind.”
This life requires work. Study. I read the Bible every year. The One Year Bible plans make it easy. I read different translations. I do a daily Bible Study and I also do a Devotional. This year I’m doing Billy Graham. The wonder of staying in the Word is you don’t see the daily growth but, looking back, you will be constantly amazed at your progress. I know a lot of Scripture. Feed your spiritual life.
Tithing is another lie. Most tithers I know cannot remember the last time they had no money. I know it is said, “You can’t outgive God.” And you can’t. If you approach the topic from a world view, it makes no sense. Once you try it, once you understand Malachi 3:10, you know it works. Christian friends are like all friends. Some are fun and some are not. The joy, contentment and peace of a Christian life can outshine any promise of thrills and excitement the world offers.
God, I am sorry we humans make this so hard. I find such comfort in the Bible. I love the parables. The wisdom. The hope You offer to every man, woman, and child. I treasure the Psalms and Proverbs. Better is one day in Your house than a hundred lived in ego, emotion and the trials of the world. Sometimes, at the end of a hard day, I long to hold Your hand and walk beside the still waters. Thank You for truly loving me and helping me experience life as You designed it to be lived.
GOD’S WORD Translation
10 “Bring one-tenth of your income into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this way,” says the Lord of Armies. “See if I won’t open the windows of heaven for you and flood you with blessings. Malachi 3: 10
