I am reevaluating needs. As gas, food, utilities and every other expense skyrockets, I am aware I can comfortably get by with less. I rely on experience. Like David. He knew he could defeat Goliath because he’d already defeated lions and bears. He had a history. He trusted God because he trusted that history. I too have a history. I’ve always had enough food and enough clothing. Maybe not what I wanted in younger years but always enough. God didn’t promise He would provide what the world prompts us to wear or eat. He promised enough. And He has been faithful. Since He has consistently provided food and clothing all the days of my life, I have every right to believe He is going to keep performing His word! It’s a history. And a promise.

Everyone has unmet needs at one time or another. It might be an emotional need, like nurturing. Or a physical need such as dental care or nutrition. Because of the relentless influence of television commercials, many of our ‘needs’ are simply wants. The true treasures in life will never be material possessions. Relationships, family, the satisfaction of accomplishment and all the intangibles that connect us to others are the things we will treasure as we look back over our lives. Be kind. Love others and try to see them through God’s eyes. Let Him do the judging.

Father God, I am weary of judging others. I do not have your view of time, circumstance or future events. I am shortsighted and arrogant when I assume I know enough to pass judgement on someone else’s vision. Help me rely on grace and patience as I deal with others. Your grace sustains me daily. I thank you for loving everyone and believing many will yet choose to follow Jesus.

When you judge people for doing these things but then do them yourself, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? Romans 2:3
