Human emotions can feel overwhelming. Fear. Worry. We are manipulated by a media that loves hyperbole, drama and fear. This is a system determined to keep us off balance, dependent, and anxious. Our victory comes when we are reignited daily by God’s love, His protection and His intense good will for us. He is as imperative to our well-being as the air we breathe and the food we eat. We need to be reminded daily or even several times a day that God walks beside us and He holds us safe and loved.
The world, especially that ever present television set in our living rooms, loves to lure us into comparison worries, doubt, impostor syndromes and many other false emotions. Why do we believe our few negative attributes or non-giftings and practically ignore the compliments, accolades and appreciative comments concerning our areas of talent and skill? Change focus. Change your testimony. When in a group, a team, don’t sit silent when they are seeking your skillset. Volunteer. God didn’t give you your gift so you could be shy and refuse to expose it. He gave it for the good of the church, for the benefit of the Body of Christ. Once you contribute and allow others to appreciate your gifts, you will gain confidence and won’t feel compelled to compare yourself to others. Your self-confidence will open door.
Father God, thank you for waking me to my value, for helping me see myself through Your eyes. I repent for all the times I have hidden behind the ‘shy lie’ instead of working alongside others. Shyness is simply another tool our enemy uses to keep us from participating with our brothers and sisters in the church in order to further Your work. Help me, Father, to stop comparing my gifts to others. You have designed such an amazing team, each person skilled in a different way, all coming together in perfection to create Your vision for all of us.
6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. Romans 12:6 NLT
