I have on many occasions had someone reveal a situation or come to me emotionally wrecked about something in their life. On no occasion, ever, if I ask if they would like me to pray about it, has anyone ever said “no.” This tells me people innately trust God, need God and they are desperate for Him to intervene in their circumstance. When we hear people need help, our first reaction should be to go to prayer. Prayer works. God longs to help. He just needs permission to move on our behalf.

When we are in pain, we are transparent, vulnerable, and much more likely to reveal our situation. Pretense usually falls away as we reach out for help and comfort. We long for others to strengthen our flagging faith. In those hard patches in my life, I have always been aware I needed an infusion of faith from people who were not having their own faith tested at the moment. It is best to seek out the heroes of faith at such moments, the giants who, like David, have a history of conquering lions and bears. Always be ready to pray when someone shares their pain and comes to you with questions. Ask God how best to pray, how best to come alongside them and ignite their passion for Him again.

Oh Lord God, Help me to be Your voice, Your hope and help when people come to me with needs and they are afraid they’ll never find you again. May I have the correct words, the absolute help and advice they need at this exact moment. Lord, I pray comfort for the hurting, faith for the sick, healing for the broken and hope for the fearful. As I lean in to ignite their expectations, let me remember tomorrow I could be the one walking through the valley of the shadow of death. Thank you, God, for sharing all Your colors, all Your tender feelings with Your people. May we always know You are near.

He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” 2 Corinthians 1:4
