Media new stories come to us with built-in expectations. The writer of the story adds a slant that stealthily becomes your slant, because judgment is woven throughout the telling. Reporters are trained to be objective, presenting listeners with the who, what, where, why and when details. Media is in transition. If the owners control the narrative, they control the culture. The moment we compromise that truth, we’d better be prepared to defend American values.

If we want an unbiased view of current culture, it is a good idea to read and/or watch the viewpoints in more than one publication. While local news presents endless stories of people lost in homelessness, take time to see how successful the government response has been in solving the issue. Warehousing individuals in matching free tents, overlooking crime and consequences, has a dismal track record.

What can we do? Advocate for effective results. Do not tolerate or support news that is clearly manipulative. Those individuals profiting from drugs and the proliferation of homeless camps need to be cut off from the source. People who have much to gain politically and financially when we believe their propaganda should be held accountable for false narratives. As Christians, we should feel empathy when someone suffers hunger, homelessness or addiction. When we view everyone through God’s loving heart, it is easy to love everyone as you love yourself.

Lord God, Help us seek truth from government and media sources. Give us discerning minds and a willingness to dig deeper when we have questions. We pray for a change in heart as those in media control realize the importance of honest reporting. We know You hold the integrity of democracy in Your hands. We thank You for intervention and favor as we traverse cultural changes and upheaval.

The Value of Righteousness

Dishonest scales are disgusting to the Lord, but accurate weights are pleasing to him. Arrogance comes, then comes shame, but wisdom remains with humble people. Integrity guides decent people, but hypocrisy leads treacherous people to ruin. ... Proverbs 11
