God is Good, No Matter What
God is with us in good times and in bad. He alerts us to danger. He leads us to people we need in our lives. He celebrates our victories. Whether it is a job, education, a home, cars, He wants to bless us. We pray for protection and favor, and we have faith God will hear us and respond. In Luke 12:48, the Word says, “…. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.”
Being alert to God’s blessings and His favor enriches our days. So many little gifts He bestows. A sunrise that takes your breath away. A child’s hug. A revelation or an aha moment. All gifts. All intentional just for you. When we acknowledge these small things, we come to anticipate God’s gifts in the big things too.
Bad things happen to good people. Good people who surrender their lives to God, who develop a faith-filled relationship with Him, are not wrong because they believe strongly in His protection. We still go through trials. We still experience losses. But statistically, we are more blessed. When we are sick, when tragedy comes to our doors, we experience God’s comfort and love. We pray for healing and many times we are healed. We pray for miracles and we see them. I will never apologize for asking God for protection. Non-Christians who think of God’s favor as an unfair advantage should hit their knees. It’s the only thing that makes sense.
The biggest problem for non-believers is two-fold. They don’t believe God protects us and they certainly don’t believe He will protect them. They point to disease and war, to earthquakes and hurricanes, to lost little children and escalating crime. God doesn’t do those things. But because of His incredible and generous love, He gave us free choice. We can accept or reject Him, follow Him or walk away. So, they stew and spew, call us names and mock us. And we turn the other cheek.
It is encouraging to realize God is not finished working in our lives. He delights in surprising us with new adventures, a fresh call and delightful revelation. Every day is a brand-new opportunity!
Lord God, I am so grateful I chose to follow You. Thank You for loving me enough to court me, for calling me and inviting me to enter Your Kingdom, for showing me Your Son Jesus in such a tender way I cold not look away. Thank You for keeping Your hand on my heart and Your love in my mind. Without You, I was always lost and with You I am miraculously found.
A psalm of praise of David.
I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness. ... Psalm 145
