I have always loved the story of David and Goliath. David knew he could defeat this sacrilegious enemy because he had killed a lion and a bear while shepherding flocks! We all have lions and bears in our past, moments where we’ve had to dig deep, found God-given strength and achieved more than we thought we could. When we face adversity, when we are challenged to do better, we need to remember where and what we have been with God in the past and our hearts will surge with new strength and promise. And, in faith, we will move with God again.
I always try to remember I never walk alone. Or speak alone. Those moments can be helpful when you’re driving and someone cuts you off. Human responses might not be welcome to the Lord’s ears and are less likely to be uttered if we remember He is in the passenger seat. Once we recognize He hears all we say and He sees all we do, we do better! That’s a behavior change. Minor in comparison to the change we see in our confidence as we walk through the world. This means we walk into interviews, doctor’s offices, court rooms and every stressful situation with an advocate who loves us. That should ignite confidence. Every victory we experience, every moment the world says we cannot achieve, and then, through faith and perseverance we do achieve it, we understand our blessings. Remembering we are children of the King is empowering.
Lord God, let me never forget You chose me. I remember the day You called me and I answered. Your voice spoke love and hope. I am blessed I did not turn aside, walk away or try to navigate this world acting as my own authority. You remind me of the victories and Your promises of forever. I am able to see, to keep a record of Your goodness and the promises You’ve kept.
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
