At my age, I long to honor my relationships with love. I understand judgement, criticism, and control are forms of manipulation. I wonder how my life would have changed if I had been more tolerant, more loving and supportive sooner. God offers us the fruits of the Spirit and He expects us to seek them and use them. It feels like God just caught up to me one day. He grabbed my hand and walked with me, showing me the beauty of a smile, the astonishment of trust and the value of laughter. Once we discover the miracle of others, attitude and game playing falls away like useless skin.
It seems to be human nature to view relationships with a suspicious eye. We jockey positions, a bit wary as we circle for control and sure footing. How much richer it would be if we assumed they were as loving and vulnerable and honest as we think we are. If God brings someone into my life now, I get excited, wondering what adventures He plans to send us on. I don’t have to be in control because that is His place. It is freeing to step back from all manner of judgement and just let God do what He does so well. People have stories. They have experience and lessons they have learned. When we operate as a caring team we can use other’s lessons as our own.
Lord, You are so wise as You bring people into my life. You make shortcuts using connection, in those places where I used to employ power plays and a waiting game. You gently teach me to be a team player, a person who trusts first and forgives later if need be. You clothe me in armor, You always have my back and You prepare me for all the challenges You see ahead. Thank you, Lord, for love, lessons and constant growth.
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, Ephesians 1:13
