The day eventually comes when we know exactly what God has called us to do.  We get excited.  Committed.  We are inspired to write or paint.  To follow His lead and do what He asks.  We’re in His family. We get comfortable.  We procrastinate, give second or third best; we nod at Him or just think we’ll do more and better tomorrow. But the days are short. The Call is great and the pressure immense. What if He suddenly returns Sunday?  Would we be ready? Proud of our efforts?  Convinced we did our best?

Sometimes we need God to intervene. Because the world just will not let go. It waters down perfection.  It dulls joy.  At my work, I need God to help subdue someone who is suing Ice Chips because we do not have braille on our website. It has all the earmarks of a scam but is supported by our broken and crippled legal system. Lord God, I am weary. Today owning a business means opening your empty wallet to an army of thieves who live their lives robbing and stealing and destroying. A perfect biblical description of the devil.

How have we managed to make everything so complicated? It’s supposed to be easy. Jesus made it easy. If everyone simply loved everyone else, the division in the world would go away. Following our great commandment to love the Lord with all our hearts, there is only one rule. Love each other as you love yourselves! The world complicates and makes difficult something designed to be easy. And we are the worst for it.

In a time of division and judgement, a time when empathy and mercy within our culture are sorely tested, it is Grace indeed to know nothing can separate us from God’s great love. Worry is futile. Fear is paralyzing. God teaches us to love, and love is healing and redeeming. Choose love.

Dear Lord, thank You for making a place for me in the Body of Christ.  Not just a place.  A position, designed for my exact skills, arranged ahead of time, just for me.  Thank You for courting me, running after me, inviting me to be a loved part of Your world and Your family.  Help me to always do my best for You and to find the joy You intended for my life.

A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God,  Ecclesiastes 2:24
