Letters from God
I remember when I finally surrendered to God’s love, the day He dropped me to my knees, and I absolutely knew I would never leave Him again. When that happens, when we accept Jesus Christ and determine to follow in His steps, we become like Him, beloved children of God. It is a choice. God never forces us to follow Him. As we live following His precepts, we live amazed at those who turn their backs and walk away. His love is certain. Promised, true. To turn away from that is so unthinkable.
God’s tender gifts are Fatherly. My husband lost his earthly father when he was four years old. That was such a wound for him. He missed having a father. He felt lost. Different. Cheated. When I met him, I knew he carried a scar. I began to ask God if He might let Larry feel his father’s love, how hard it was for him to suffer from cancer and leave a young wife and five sons. God inspired me to write a letter from Heaven, a letter expressing the loss from his father’s point of view. That year, hidden in the branches of our Christmas tree, a special envelope waited. I watched him find it and open it. I watched a great healing. Over the years, other envelopes have joined that first one. Siblings. Other parents. They are treasured gifts and we thank God for them. We are His beloved. He watches over us. Just as He says He will. He expects us to do our part. That is being the hands, feet and mouth of a risen Savior, reaching those who are lost and leading them to be found, loved and saved.
Do you need a letter from Heaven? Sometimes, pain is just so raw God is compelled to do extra, reach a little deeper. Allowing Larry to read a letter from his adored father, the man he loved dearly and last saw when he was four years old, has changed him. Last I heard they are planning a game of catch when Larry gets there. What a good good God.
God heals hearts and He heals bodies. He cares about whatever we need. We are all accustomed to asking for basic needs, food, shelter, and clothing. We pray for healing when we’re sick. If your heart is hurting, if you have a loss that feels too huge to bear, ask God to send you an answer.
Father God, You are so very good. Your love extends outside any box we can imagine. When we think we have You figured out, You smile and show us how much deeper you can be. Thank You for gifts of love that take our breath away. For miracles tucked away in branches and voices reawakened like old bones, blessed to rise again and speak Your love.” Matthew 23:23
