Coping with Change

We live in an age where massive cultural change is taking place. I think about family members, many who passed before these shifts were as advanced, and I wonder how they would react to current behavior. My parents enjoyed a stable culture focused on non-invasive values.  This culture stayed in their own lane, chose to say nothing if they couldn’t say something nice, and controlled their own emotions without demands to control everyone else.

Cultural shaking tends to generate opposition.  Long-held freedoms and beliefs are challenged and people don’t like a lot of change.  As Christians, we must trust God with the level of courage the Israelites needed as they passed through the parted sea. No matter what happens, God is still in control.

Fleeing sin is easier as we grow older, but there are times we might not even recognize modern sin for what it is.  There is a lot of bullying, mocking, and cruelty online.  People hide behind screens and say things we hope they would never say if they were face to face in a grocery or bank line.  That iis sin.  If you spend 8 hours a day on an iPad or twelve hours a day playing video games, instead of operating In your call, you are engaged in sin. Everything that separates us from God, obeying His call and fulfilling the gifts He put in us ends up as sin.

I do not love change. But if we love to hear and serve God, we must be open to changing our course. Serving is serving. It means we don't choose our own way and are required to serve where and how God directs us. Life offers alternative paths for those who do not listen and obey, but they never bring the fullness and the joy of following God’s perfect plan for our lives.

Being children of God, we live secure and confident, loved and adored.  Those are the things that make people question us, wondering where our positivity comes from.  Our job, our joy, comes from representing the Kingdom of God in a way that calls people into the Glory of God’s love.

Father God, Please help me adapt to change ore swiftly.  Every change I’ve made after listening to You, has been a huge benefit.  The Word is filled with wisdom and has answers for the biggest questions we can ask.  I long to serve You well, Lord, to hear You, to use my gift and skills, and lead people into more tranquil and satisfying lives.  I know the world majors in anxiety and stress.  You have led me beside the still waters and there I found my peace.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.  Proverbs 3:5-6
