Swagger

I recently read an article that dealt with the way Christians are viewed by people who do not attend church.  We were described as confident, delusional, and out of touch with modern culture.  We walk, they said, with a swagger that belies our delusion.  Hmmm.  Swagger.  It means to walk or behave in a very confident and typically arrogant or aggressive way.  I do not disagree.  When your Father is the God of the Angel Army, when He created the Universe, all things alive and thriving on the earth, and He filled humanity with talent and creativity, it’s hard not to celebrate Him with every step we take.

I’ve heard people say Christians pray for life advantages, which is selfish and unfair.  Seriously?  That implies it works.  Sadly, it sounds like the unbeliever is more convinced of that than the Christian.  We have every right to swagger.  We have a God who has made hundreds of promises to us.  We have a God who loves us even more than He loves sparrows.  Matthew 10:29-31 says, “What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin[k]? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. 30 And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

We have a God who walks beside us, assuring our comfort and safety.  In the 23rd Psalm,, we read:1 The Lord is my shepherd;
    I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
    he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3     He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
    bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk
    through the darkest valley,[
a]
I will not be afraid,
    for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
    protect and comfort me.
5 You prepare a feast for me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
    My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
    all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
    forever.

He loves us, He forgives us, He fills us with talent and places us in the very heart of the world’s needs.  We do not just pray for ourselves.  When we operate in godly patterns, we pray for everyone.  Particularly the unsaved.  But yes, our God is an awesome God.  We walk with our heads high, confident and sure of our destiny, and we have a certain bounce to our steps.

God, I am in awe of You.  You cover us, protect us, provide for us, and lead us straight to the missions that advance Heavenly agendas.  Thank You, Father, for filling us with faith and confidence and a sense of enchantment and joy. Reading Your Word leads us to Revelation and we know in the end, You win.

And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.  2 Corinthians 1:10
