Deeper Waters
Sometimes I think when the going gets tough we just slip into auto pilot. What a waste. It is at those very moments God draws close. He puts His arm around us or holds our hand in His. This is when He speaks, when nuggets of wisdom tumble from His mouth. If we’re attentive, we have the very Word of God falling upon us. A thousand semi good days will pale in comparison to this one perfect moment, this one-on-one schooling God has reserved just for us. Don’t miss it!
Some of life’s fallacies say we do not have enough time for a rich spiritual life, that we do not have enough money to tithe, that Christian friends are not as much fun, and godly principles drain life’s pleasures. Those assertions are meant to lure us far from our Salvation, to turn our minds toward the world and away from the Word. Remember, the devil comes to kill, steal and destroy!
We have to work when we don’t feel like working. Pray when we don’t feel like praying. Our feelings are emotions and they are easily manipulated by an enemy who has no good wishes for our lives. Defy that enemy with God’s power!
Sometimes I think we fail to recognize the gifts God placed inside us, the gifts or talents intended to save and rescue nations. When we see ourselves through non-miracle viewing eyes, we miss the glory of God’s intentions!
Really, what we do for others, the obedience we offer Jesus, the adherence to the Ten Commandments and all God’s instructions, are the only worthwhile times we spend. To serve God is to serve mankind. To serve mankind is to finally understand how to serve God.
Father, I am tired of giving You a portion of the debt I owe. You saw me before I was born. You formed me perfectly in my mother’s womb. You designed me with a purpose and then you poured into me every talent and skill I would need to fulfill Your plans. And I waste too many hours and days and weeks and years. I cater to my own emotions and desires, and I sometimes forget for long stretches of time to follow the path where You gently placed me. I am so sorry for the time I have squandered. Help me hear and obey You more every day.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
