Voices and Choices
In 2 Corinthians 10:4, the Word says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds…” If we study Scripture, go to church, or make an effort to know as much about the Bible as possible, we understand there is Bible knowledge and Spiritual knowledge. There are Spiritual battles being fought right this minute in the Heavens.
Even if we don’t want to believe in demons and evil forces, can we look at human behavior and declare there is no wickedness in this world? There are struggles in schools, workplaces, politics, and every venue where humans seek to be in charge. Much of that drama is deliberately hidden from us.
We have seen schools lose the right to pray and cities lose the right for Christian Christmas displays. Our children can’t pray in school but Muslim prayer bells ring daily in downtown Detroit. Little by little, the freedoms that made America the desired destination throughout the world are being stripped away. The goal of all these new regulations and laws is to remove God from our culture. To ignore that battle is to guarantee continued losses for conservative voices.
It is a daily struggle to defend God and morality in a world that seems to have lost its compass. Starting each day with a commitment to focus on God’s will and His way is our only hope.
Disagreement is usually accompanied with name calling and ridicule. It takes a lot of courage to be called homophobic, prejudiced, racist and cruel, when you know those things are not true. I think that is when we’re supposed to turn the other cheek. Just keep loving people and ignore the accusatory rhetoric.
Father God, I keep hearing we live in an upside down world. No question, the beliefs and traditions practiced in the 50s, 60s, 70s and even earlier, are under attack from many sides. Some of them should be. But we always heard the expression, “Don’t throw the baby out with the bath.” To change deep societal conduct, to deny modesty, morality and comfort without helping people cope with lightning speed havoc, leaves people confused and reeling. Lord, help us do these things decently and in order. Nothing should be overthrown and changed without measuring possible consequences Help us, oh God, think, research and understand how cultures evolve in healthy and productive ways.
Let all things be done decently and in order.
