It is a challenge to stay focused on God, the Great Commission, and our personal call when we have an enemy attempting to get in the way. Fear and insecurity are his favorite weapons. As long as he can keep us focused on ourselves, on our feelings, our values, our offenses, we are of no use to the Body of Christ. If we could ignore all those recordings in our minds, those words that keep us caring what others think, we could thrive in ways we never have before. Whatever people are thinking, it’s rarely about us.
It is possible to get past self obsession. I once appeared on the show, Shark Tank, with my business partner Charlotte Clary. We created a Good for You Candy called Ice Chips. That appearance generated a 4-5 year frenzy of speaking engagements at schools and conferences. With sound people threading wires up our backs, mics inside collars and cameras everywhere, we stopped being concerned about individual photos. We relaxed about details that had once seemed important.
Tell the devil to take a hike. Stay focused on your call. Ignore comparisons to others and set your creativity free.
God, I repent for every hour I have wasted worrying about my talent being big enough, good enough, or called by You. It is a joy to serve you, to listen for Your voice, and to obediently respond. I thank You for calling others and gifting them in different ways, for designing us to work together. Help me celebrate everyone.
“The evidence of the Spirit’s presence is given to each person for the common good of everyone.” 1 Corinthians 12:7 GW
