People of faith should be more open about their lives. There’s a great need in the world for our God stories, our testimonies, our evidence of hope, love and peace. We see confusion, anger, division and chaos around us. We need to offer others the rest and peace we enjoy. Rage and fear keep people off kilter. They feed mistrust. Currently, our culture is camped in negative expectations and it’s hyper suspicious. Trained as we are, we rely on God’s rescue, God’s intervention and God’s extravagant mercy.

What can we do? Before we complain, finding fault with everything, we should learn what we can about a situation, pray, and look for solutions to the things we want to see changed. Operate in the gifts God gave you. Invent. Create. Write. Paint. Design. Negotiate. How about just talking to others? Listen. Withhold judgment. Try to hear the heart behind the anger.

Ultimately, we all have things in common. Everyone wants their kids and grandchildren to have a good life. A safe life. Hopefully an eternal life. Talk to people about family fun. Game nights. Laughter. The lack of chaos. It’s all right to say you thank God your children are all tax paying assets to the community. That they are raising their own children. That drugs have not wrapped an angry fist around your family’s joy. To a person focused on every bad headline, toss the lifeline of tender mercy. We do not have to suffer what might be when we follow the One who IS!

Dear God, Help me be a light in the middle of the storm. Let me bring a smile, a bit of hope, even a laugh to someone who is lost in depression and hopelessness. Let me remind people politics are temporary, gas prices fluctuate, wars end and God is the same yesterday, today and forever. I will not complain unless I have tried to come up with a solution and if I cannot fix something I know you can. In those times, help me pray. God, you are so good and I thank You for calling me into Yourself.

But dedicate your lives to Christ as Lord. Always be ready to defend your confidence ⌞in God⌟ when anyone asks you to explain it. However, make your defense with gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:15
