For those who read the entire Bible every year, particularly in the Old Testament, there are numerous references to plunder, pillaging and spoils.
What does Webster say about plunder? To take goods by force, as in war. PILLAGE, SPOILS. To take by force wrongfully, STEAL, LOOT.
In movies like Braveheart, which actually took place in the 1200s, long after Old Testament days, we see a graphic view of the violence, death and plunder associated with war.
I know when I saw Braveheart, when I read the Bible, I’m usually in a safe and cozy environment and, until recently, I thought those days were far behind us.
But are they?
We’ve seen a lot of violence in the streets of America. We’ve seen people overturning cars, particularly police cars, breaking thousands of windows, burning buildings and cars, shooting people in the streets, people who are actually with them and supposedly on their side.
We’ve seen epic looting. Is that plunder? We’re certainly in a war, not a declared civil war, but a social war, a political war, and undeniably a war against the status quo.
In spite of the shocking amount of looting, Retail shops, tech shops, grocery and drug stores plus restaurants and small businesses, that doesn’t seem to be the true intended plunder.
The plunder these people want, the hidden agenda, the thing the protesters are after is God Himself. Christians. America. The flag, our traditions, the Presidency, the economy and all things righteous. They hate our freedom; they assuredly take advantage of our kindness, naïveté and the essence of trust that has made America a great nation since it was officially founded in 1776.
Who doesn’t want religious freedom? Maybe people who want no religion at all. Who would sneer at and disrespect America’s flag? Perhaps people who want socialism, or worse, anarchy.
It seems we’ve been trusting and gullible. We took God’s Grace, forgiveness and this wonderful country for granted. We believed God was on our side. We believe He Himself founded America, creating a faithful people who could and would fund the end time harvest.
In 1 Samuel 30, when David and his army returned to Ziklag, they found the Amalekites had burned the city, taken everyone captive and marched them away, along with the spoils of war. His men were enraged, threatening to stone him. Their wives and children were gone.
David went to the Lord, asking if he should pursue the invaders. God was quick and thorough in His response. Essentially, He told David to pursue, overtake and recover all. He said He would give Him the victory. That is what David did. In the end he brought home every captured person. He recovered the spoils. And then he took the enemies sheep and goats and cattle, saying, “This is David’s spoils.”
It’s good at times like this to remember God is the same, yesterday, today and forever. If He expected David to obey and take back what God called His own, He won’t expect less from us. We are called to reclaim what America’s enemies have taken.
That’s prayer in schools. It’s freedom of religion without mockery, contempt or abuse. It’s our flag, our Patriotism. It’s the Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule and all the people blessed in the Beatitudes. These are the things generations of our ancestors laid their lives down to protect. It means protecting our Constitution and the freedoms that have made America the greatest country on earth.
We love our Immigrants, those who take the time and effort to come here legally and support our system of government. We are a kind, trusting and culturally diverse group, we Christians. If we want the respect of America’s enemies, we need to stand together as a group and let them know we are cohesive, strong and determined. When they attack God’s people, let them know He has given us authority to pursue, overtake and recover all.
